Project Ahimsa, a global effort to empower youth through music, is seeking your financial support of its education initiatives in underserved areas around the world.
Thanks to your donations over the years, Project Ahimsa has been able to introduce innovative and exciting programs that give children platforms to express themselves and their cultures through music. To sustain these efforts and their immense rewards, we need support from YOU, our generous and kind donors.
Donate $250 or more to any program, and you will receive a complimentary set of headphones from Skull Candy (an estimated $80 value).

Suggested donation amounts are listed next to each project, along with the total amount needed to fully fund the project. If we receive more than the full fund amount for a project, that donation will be used for the same grant next year.
Project Ahimsa Music Grants That Need Your Support:
Join Project Ahimsa in its global initiative to empower youth through music by supporting a music program for an entire year! You're invited to accompany Project Ahimsa members on an incredible weeklong journey in December 2011 to visit the Gandhi Ashram and witness inspiring youth music programs in Ahemdebad and Kolkata. The journey concludes with a relaxing retreat in Goa. Roundtrip flights from San Francisco to India, travel within India and all hotel accommodations are included.
Join Project Ahimsa on Friday, September 24th, 2010 from 8pm to 12am as a Bollywood Disco Ball event host. The Bollywood Disco Ball will be an exciting evening filled with Bhangara-meets-Go Go dancing, Indian-inspired cocktails and delicious Indian cuisine. DJ Timeteo Gigante will be mixing beats to accompany mashups of 1970's Bollywood movies. Get out your funky formal attire and join the party!
The Project Ahimsa Team is seeking 10 event hosts to join the committee. Current members include Vijay Chattha, Archana Chatta, Darian Heyman, Anne-Sophie Breuning, Shabnum Norling, Ali Ansari, Nihal Mehta, Sandeep Sood and Paul Grewal.
Host responsibilities include:
$1000 pre-event tax deductible donation to Project Ahima and 200 emails + social media sharing of event information to network.
In return hosts get 10 tickets to the event, valued at $100 each
Global Lingo 2 - Celebrate the engagement of Anne-Sophie Breuning and James Hurst

The Project Ahimsa team is excited to announce the engagement of our very own Anne-Sophie Breuning to James Hurst. In lieu of gifts, the couple wishes for friends and family to make a contribution to Project Ahimsa by using the link below. All proceeds generated will go toward production costs for Global Lingo 2, a collaborative music album that will engage youth participants and talented musicians from all over the globe. House of Hope Music Program provides youth in Uganda the opportunity to learn about their history and culture through music, song, and dance. Hosting regular classes and performances, House of Hope provides a safe and fun atmosphere for students to build lasting relationships with one another and with their communities.
Batuta Meta has been enriching the lives of impoverished youth for the past ten years. This is their first year as a Project Ahimsa grantee. Providing the only free cultural programs in public schools in Columbia, Batuta Meta exposes children to enriching musical experiences that they otherwise have no access to. Competent in the Suzuki music pedagogy, Batuta staff partner with families, community leaders, schools and cultural institutions to support the growth of young musicians.
Manav Sadhna - Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India - Needs $1,250
Based at the Mahatma Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, India, Manav Sadhna provides education, nutrition, and medical aid to women and children living in Gujarat's largest slums. In partnership with Project Ahimsa, the organization has built a permanent Community Music Center located in Ahmedabad's largest slum. The money raised for Manav Sadhna will support four full-time music programs that will service over 300 students. A portion of this grant will also enhance a music therapy room in order to provide additional music education tools and technology.
First inspired by recording artist and producer Nimo Patel, the Global Lingo initiative unites renowned musicians like Michael Franti and Spearhead, J-Boogie, Miguel Migs, and Cubanix with kids from Project Ahimsa youth programs in musical collaboration and celebration of diversity. Global Lingo delivers new rhythms of folk, reggae, dub, hip hop, bhangra, electronica and more. The first Global Lingo album is now available for purchase on iTunes.
Art in Action empowers youth leaders by promoting art for social change through personal, social, political and cultural education. Through innovative and participatory programming featuring music, media arts, spoken word/poetry, dance/theater, storytelling, and painting, Art in Action continues to make a lasting impact on San Francisco's urban youth, focusing on diverse communities in underserved areas.
Youth Music Tour - Needs $3500
One of our goals is to host a U.S. tour featuring youth musicians from Project Ahimsa programs. Your donation will fund one child's expenses on a four-city tour, providing the experience of a lifetime and taking their talent to the next level. Participating youth musicians will get valuable experience in the areas of touring and live performance while gaining exposure to new cultures and audiences.
A Project Ahimsa grantee for the past four years, MentAid is an organization that serves mentally handicapped children and adults in the poorest areas of Kolkata, India. Grants provided by Project Ahimsa have enabled the organization to provide music education to the 250 youth that it serves. Through this grant, Project Ahimsa aims to provide MentAid with an array of new musical instruments that will be used in its after school programs and annual talent showcase performances.
Empower the Children, created in 2001, provides educational opportunities and nutrition to destitute and disabled children in Calcutta, India. Presently, Empower the Children oversees five educational programs (two for disabled children), four lunch programs, two tutorial centers, a school sponsorship program, and a newly-opened orphanage. Additionally, two music programs and a library have been inaugurated in partnership with Project Ahimsa. This grant will provide an array of new musical instruments and expanded music classes for the children residing, learning and playing at its locations. This grant will also fund two of its music teachers' salaries for one year.
Tablas & Turntables is a pioneering workshop exploring traditions of North Indian music combined with turntablism. Initiated by Project Ahimsa in 2003, about 200 at-risk high school students will benefit from this week-long immersive educational experience.
Youth Movement Records (YMR) is a non-profit, youth-directed recording company and youth development project based in Oakland, California. YMR engages youth through music, mentoring and entrepreneurship in order to reduce violence, develop skills and create community change. YMR serves 200 youth annually through their program, which runs in three 10-week cycles each year.

Project Ahimsa currently operates in fourteen countries worldwide. Your donation will enable us to reach six new countries and fund more innovative music programs. Our goal is to expand our reach to twenty countries. Each $2000 donation enables us to expand to yet another new territory.
